Our Programs

Public Speaker Series

Once a month we host a public lecture that is free and open to the public. Drawing from the deep pool of knowledge in our region between New York City, Yale, and the aerospace industry, our lectures touch on topics from astronomy, astrophysics, space exploration, and citizen science initiatives.

Check out our upcoming and past public lectures. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Public Viewing Nights

Every Wednesday, at 8 pm (if the skies are clear), we open the Westport Observatory and take out the telescopes for the public’s opportunity to see the wonders of the night sky with your own eyes. These public nights are great for all ages and for anyone who has ever felt curious about astronomy.

Please note that public nights are weather-dependent. If you can’t see the stars, we can’t either and the observatory will be closed.

Amateur Radio

The Westport Astronomical Society is home to the Amateur Radio Club, K1WAS, which meets several times a year at the observatory.

All members of the Astronomical Society are members of the radio club, as long as you have an amateur radio license. You are welcome to participate in amateur radio events as well as use the club radio shack.
