SUMMARY:Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing!
DESCRIPTION:\n\n \n\nIn 2017 we had 1,000 of our closest friends and neighbors descend on the Westport Observatory for the partial eclipse. Wowza.\nThis year, the Westport Observatory WILL BE CLOSED and we’ll be at the Westport Library.\nOn April 8th, 2024 from 2-4 pm, we take the telescopes and partner with our friends at the Westport Library. Our volunteers will be on hand with telescopes with special filters and gear to safely view the partial solar eclipse. While totality is NOT visible in Westport, the safest way to view the eclipse is with the equipment the Westport Astronomical Society and Westport Library will provide. The peak eclipse is at 3:26 pm when the sun in Westport will be 90.7% obscured. WAS will have a bunch of telescopes, some eclipse glasses, and other ways to safely view one of the solar system’s most spectacular and rare events.\nClick the image above for an animation on timeandate.com to see how the partial solar eclipse will look in Westport CT.\nThe next partial solar eclipses aren’t until 2028 and 2029 and will not obscure the sun anywhere near what we’ll see in April. For that, you’ll have to wait until the total solar eclipse on the morning of May 1, 2079.\nTelescopes will be set up at the Westport Library’s upper lot ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/p7Xf2E2imk2FMfDT7 ), in front of the Levitt Pavillion.\nTelescopes at the Levitt\n
